PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Opinel N°08 Outdoor folding knife 8.5 cm, green
Outdoor multifunctional knife, with a very strong blade with a thickness of 2.5 mm. The classic smooth blade is 3.5 cm long combined with a serrated blade. You can use it to cut firewood, cut natural or synthetic rope, or use it on a boat as a key for loosening or tightening shackles (4-10 mm thick) thanks to the hole in the blade. The weather-resistant outdoor knife is also equipped with a survival whistle that works in all weather conditions and emits a sound of 110 dB.
The handle of the knife is made of polyamide, reinforced with glass fibers. It is resistant to impacts, moisture and extreme temperatures (-40°C to +80°C). A nylon drawstring, which is threaded through the handle, allows you to attach the knife to a backpack or belt.
- Blade length: 8.5 cm
- Blade material: stainless steel
- Handle made of glass fiber reinforced polyamide
- ViroBloc lock – allows the knife to be fixed open or closed
Handle
The glass-fiber reinforced polyamide resists impacts, moisture and extreme temperatures (-40°C to +80°C). The survival whistle works in all weather conditions (110 decibels).
Safety first
The ViroBloc safety lock reliably prevents the knife from opening and closing by itself. The simple but still unsurpassed safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel back in 1955. Virobloc is part of all folding knives from N°06 onwards. In addition to locking the blade of the open knife, which ensures its absolutely safe use (it will not fold by itself even under great pressure), ViroBloc also locks the blade when closed, so you can carry any knife equipped with this safety lock with you without any worries.
Stainless steel
The choice of steel is very important, as it is one of the determining materials of the knife itself. It determines the durability and quality of the blade itself. Martensitic stainless steel of European origin with a hardness of 55-57 HRC was chosen for these Opinel knives. The blade of these knives offers excellent sharpness and high resistance to abrasion (wear), which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials, such as ceramics, without the need for re-sharpening. Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel has the advantage that it does not require any special maintenance under normal conditions of use. However, it can reach its limits, especially with prolonged contact with aggressive environments (acid, salt water, aggressive detergents).
Opinel - a design icon
The story of the now iconic Opinel brand begins in the 19th century, when merchant Victor-Amédée Opinel learned to forge nails during his travels and subsequently founded his forge in France. After his death, his son Daniel took over the craft, becoming the local farmers' "sharps maker" because the blades of his sickles and scythes were widely acclaimed as the sharpest possible. However, the real Opinel - a folding pocket knife - had to wait a while for its discovery. Daniel Opinel's eldest son, Joseph, decided to follow in his father's footsteps and, driven by artistic passion, combined handcrafting with the most modern technology at the time and created a small miracle. The year was 1890 and the Opinel folding pocket knife saw the light of day, a knife loved from day one and passed down from generation to generation. The knife, which over the years has gained hundreds of thousands of fans around the world, has become a common part of many households and somewhat of a symbol of all of France...
Nowadays, the company produces not only legendary folding outdoor knives, but also has a sophisticated kitchen program, including forged kitchen knives; today you can also buy stainless steel cutlery and steak knives from the Opinel brand.
